Since 1980, the sale of organic farming has increased to as much as 100 folds. It also has hit around $20 billion in the year 2005. Every year, there is a steady growth of 20% in the sales of organic food. And now, with the introduction of USDA organic certification, the buyers can be sure about the fact that the product they are buying is purely organic. Rather than relying on the words of the vendor, the buyers can look for the USDA certification while choosing. Organic farming has hugely affected the health of U.S agriculture.

Europe is one of the best examples to witness the growth of organic farming. Organic farming helped Europe to make its economy healthier. In Italy, their natural farming sale has double up between 1998-2000. And within these two years, the cultivation of organic farming has doubled up to 25%. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is now officially recommending all the developing nations to opt for organic agriculture. It has witnessed the economic growth of the countries that are already practicing organic farming. Organic farming would help to increase the earnings of the countries through export and also decrease their domestic hunger.

  • Organic agriculture is unproductive. Before the 1950s, yielding from organic agriculture was much more before people started using pesticides in their farms. Producing from organic farming is as much as conventional farming. But the only difference is that in organic farming, one does not need to waste natural resources and energy for doing the same. 
  • In research, it has been found that in Organic farming, the soil underneath the plants has lots of fungi, which helps in absorbing more water and nutrients. Moreover, since there is no involvement of synthetic insecticide, earthworms reside there also higher up the nutrient amount of the soil. It eventually leaves the ground for future generations.
  • Another myth that is common among the people is that in organic farming, the farms are eaten up by insects. But in a recent survey of a tomato farm, it has been found that the farms where organic agriculture is practiced have no increased amount of pests even after there is no usage of pesticides.

And since organic farming requires no cost of pesticide, it makes much more sense economically to shift towards organic farming.
