A knife is one of the most important tools we have in the kitchen. It is one of the essential tools we have in our kitchens. We can say five kitchen tools will make your daily kitchen chores faster each day. Until a couple of years ago, I had not given a single thought to what kind of knives were present at my home. So when I started my first food outlet, it did not even occur to me to get some specialized knives for the kitchen. And I remember us trying to hire a chef-cum-cook guy to come work at the outlet. In the middle of the meeting, he very casually asks if he can see what all knives we had.
Five Kitchen Tools That Are Must Have
Cherry Pitter – I make home-made cherry-jalapeño jelly in the summer. What started as an adventure in the jelly making has now turned into a full-scale job for about two weeks as everybody I know demands jar loads of the stuff. Pitting a few cherries by hand is okay if I am making the stuff for me, but when I have to make two dozen, and then a cherry pitter becomes obligatory.
Jalapeno Corer– I bought a jalapeno corer for stuffing jalapenos for poppers. It did not work very well, and it is way easier to slice peppers in half, deseed and stuff anyway. But all was not lost. I needed to core apples without slicing them, and I tried this, and it worked well.
Avocado Slicer– An avocado slicer is pretty impressive because it has a pit remover, slicing blade that isn’t metal, and it also can make slices for sandwiches or guacamole. Not much I could think of at the moment other than devices that are multi-purpose across different activities.
Pomegranate Slicer – In kitchen supply stores, I have seen a gadget that says to use it to seed a pomegranate. I like to make juice or wine out from the pomegranates, and I usually get about 30 or 40 pomegranates off my tree. A faster, but not as clean method is to use a bowl with a screen that you place the cut fruit on. A small rubber dome covers the fruit and a small hammer (I use my metal ice cream scooper) to take out the fruit into the bowl) to reduce the time taken for the task.
Knives The Most Important Kitchen Tool
Having said all of this, a few different types of blades can help you deseed almost all other kinds of food and vegetables. I realized, for the first time, how important knives can be in a kitchen. I have a different cutter for many different things to the extent that I have a different favorite for peeling an onion, julienne an onion, brunoise an onion, baton an onion.
That is not to say I change knives always when working. Still, I do have favorites, and they are not specifically for that said job. A fish filleting knife can deseed a bell pepper. It can also take the silver skin off a whole fillet because good sharp knives are the essential tool in any kitchen bar none.
